We resently deployed a new dual opteron box and installed a 64bit CentOS Linux OS . The main idea was to have it as fast and advanced as possible.
Regretfully we need to report that running a 64bit OS on such a premium piece of hardware was a total waste!
Not only did it not perform , but it was extremely buggy and because of that the server load went up to unresonable hights !
Even a simple P4 was outperforming it and the main reason for that was the difference between 32bit and 64bit OS.
We finally decided to move all 500 accounts from the opteron 64 to a stable p4 32bit box and are going to reformat the opteron box to install CentOS4.2- 32bit OS.
So for those who are thinking of using 64bit OS on a production server , I would strongly advice agains it ! The shows, taken from NBC, the USA Network and the SciFi Channel, include current and older programming, the companies said.

“SEO is still a tiny portion of the total search marketing spend.” So states MarketingSherpa in its recent Search Marketing Benchmark Survey. I find it hard to understand the under-utilization of organic SEO compared to PPC (pay-per-click) advertising when organic listings are preferred by 5 clicks to 1. The natural organic listings convert better, too. So what gives?

MarketingSherpa also states that organic results are “better noticed, read and clicked on than paid listings.” The report notes that organic listings convert as well as, or even better than, paid listings (4.2%, versus 3.6%). Study after study continue to demonstrate the power of organic links.

A recent report from web analytics firm One Stat reveals that
Mozilla Firefox usage worldwide has increased by nearly 3 percent
since April 2005, pulling Web surfers away from Microsoft Internet
Explorer, Netscape and Opera.

Firefox’s global usage share has reached 11.5 percent, says One
Stat. Internet Explorer is still the browser of choice for the
vast majority of the online world, commanding 85.45 percent, based
on reports from over 2 million users.

In the United States and Canada, however, Firefox is much more
popular. Just over 14 percent of US net-surfers use Firefox as
their primary browser, compared to 80.73 percent for IE. Almost
17 percent of Canadians prefer Firefox to 78.52 percent in favor
of IE.

Even though the Intel dual core processors don’t make an appearance in the guide, that doesn’t mean we have to ignore dual core technology for our AMD system. The Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (2.2 GHz) with its 1MB of L2 cache offers single-threaded performance exceeding a 2.2 GHz Athlon 64 FX equivalent, and offers exceptional multithreaded performance. Dual core does not offer much of a boost as far as games are concerned right now, though traditional multithreaded applications experience a huge overall performance jump with the addition of a second Athlon 64 core. As with last month, the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ offers the best price to performance ratio out of AMD’s line of Athlon 64 X2 processors.

Both of the cores on AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 4400+ are very similar to the Athlon 64 FX. Both cores include a 1MB L2 cache that translates into a total of 2MB of L2 cache per processor. The Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is clocked at 2.2GHz which correlates closely to the Athlon 64 FX-51, but the addition of a second core translates into a rather significant performance advantage for multithreaded applications. As multithreaded applications and games become more prevalent, the Athlon 64 X2 will really be given a chance to show off its true power, but for now, we can still enjoy its excellent single threaded performance in today’s games. Currently, the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is available for about $526 online.

CHIP FIRM AMD released more dual core Opterons as it continues its mission to beat up Intel on the server front.
The members of the X80 line, the 280 and the 880, are both 2.4GHz 1MB chips. The 180, a 939 based one will be launched in 30 days, but the ones announced today are available now.

The parts come in 95W, 68W and 55W variants, but unless you are a large OEM making blades don’t expect to see the 68W ones. The product mix will be heavily 95W oriented, but more than enough 68W parts are in the mix to make it more than boutique item.

The 280 will be priced at $1299, 880 comes in at $2649, and the 180 at $799 next month. The prices for the 865 and 265 now equal that of the 852 and 252 respectively, and the 870 and 270 overlap the 854 and 254 respectively. This means that AMD wants to move to dual core as fast as it can. The 180 is priced the same as the 152, the highest speed single core 1xx. Prices are when you buy 1,000 of the processors at a time

Ok for the people with the same question this is how I did it it was a very simple process :

1) Go to your old domain name account and go to PHPmyadmin and select the DB , in my case it was called lpDM.sql.

2) Click on Export

3) In the Export box click Select All

4) In the bottom where it says Save As File, name the DB the same as the new one. The old for me was lpDM and I changed it to the new DB name that was giving when I did the installation on the new domain name.
So now delete what you see in the box next to File name template: and put the New DB name.

5) Where it says Compression, pick “gzipped”

6) Click GO

7)Now when download is finshed you will see the file on your desktop named example: lpDM.sql.( Rename it to just lpDM) or what ever the new DB named is.

8)Now go to your control panel and delete the New DB .

9) Go to backup section in your account and select Restore an SQL DB Look for the old DB that we downloaded and renamed it, in your computer and upload it.

This worked very nicely using Cpanel and PHPmyadmin

Have gotten a new dual opteron 248 box with 4 gigs of registered ram and 6 SATA 2 harddrives in raid5 running on a nice tyan thunder mobo.
It got delivered the other day into the datacenter where the sysadmin was ready to install CentOS4.1 (the 64 bit version) onto it.
But the new supplier mucked up and send us the system with a non compatible Raid card

I ordered a 3ware hotswap 8port but they send us something else which needed to have the drivers recompiled in the kernel , which is not good.
I really think that if you order premium equipment then the supplier should really stick to the order instead of changing it to their convenience .

Anyway , lets hope we get the new 3ware card tomorrow and the install of the OS can be completed.
Cant wait to install cPanel and all the security upgrades onto it , including the new control panel.
Still lots of work ahead of me afterwards as I gotta move at least 150 accounts over to the new box
